Why Slow Grown Home?

Life can be noisy and is often fast paced and frantic. Trying to keep up with the to do list and get everything done can feel overwhelming and quite frankly, exhausting. For my family, however, we’ve had to find a different way to live. One that embraces a slower pace and that honours simplicity and connection. This slower rhythm was not a conscious choice, but a necessity born from the specific challenges we face as a family. The name Slow Grown Home encapsulates the lifestyle we’ve adopted and is the fundamental cornerstone to our wellbeing.

The Challenges We Face

Having children whose needs prevent them from coping with the challenges of school forced us to re-examine everything. It didn’t happen overnight and took many years to cultivate a life that worked. Together as a family, we shaped our life in a way that supported our unique needs. Slowly and carefully. With purpose and intention. By living this way, I support my children’s needs and allow them to develop at their own pace.

This has required major shifts in my life. I slowed down my career as a lecturer to be more present for my children. With my own health issues ever present, gradually and imperfectly I made changes. If I’m honest, this slower pace of life doesn’t come naturally to me. I often get it wrong and fall back into old habits, taking on and doing way too much. Life reminds me to pause, reset, and find balance when I or those close to me become dysregulated. It’s a constant work in progress and a journey I will continue on for the rest of my life.

Finding Joy in the Simple Things

To me, a Slow Grown Home means growth doesn’t need to be fast. It reminds us to take our time, live on our terms, and embrace a life that looks different—and that’s okay

Finding joy and beauty in the simple things in life is something I strive for every single day. Whether that’s baking, stroking my cats, walking barefoot on the grass, or watching my daughter read on the sofa. Yes, these things bring me immense joy and I am thankful for these simple pleasures. We build our life on these moments; these quiet, seemingly insignificant moments in time make a slow grown home so precious. These are the moments that make me feel alive. Present. Sadly, people often overlook these moments as something trivial or even rare; a privilege almost. Surely it shouldn’t be this way. Surely life is worth slowing down for?

Slow Down, Sit Back

If you ever feel overwhelmed by life, I hope my blog inspires you and offers practical tips to help you slow down. Through these pages, I share glimpses of our days. They are often messy and imperfect, but they’re ours. Use these posts simply as guides not definitive how to’s. Find your own value in slowing down and embrace the essence of stillness in a way that works for you. Our journey’s won’t look the same and that’s okay.

Make small changes, and over time, you’ll be amazed at how beneficial living this way can be for your well-being. I’m not saying to ignore the world and that you won’t experience tough days, but don’t let them erase the good you do. Don’t let these harder moments define your journey. Just reset and carry on because tomorrow’s a new day.

For me, Slow Grown Home is a more than a blog name; it’s a philosophy. It reminds us to live with intention and embrace the simpler things, even when the world outside is busy and loud. So grab a cup of something hot, curl up on the sofa and take a breath. A moment. Because you are so worth slowing down for.

I’m so happy you’re here.
